CSR Summit 2007
What is CSR

  • “Let us be true global citizens. Let us not rest until we have truly succeeded in bringing positive change into the lives of people, and laid the foundations for peaceful, well-functioning, sustainable societies throughout the world.”

Kofi Annan UN Global Compact Leaders Summit 24 June, 2004

  • “It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.”

    Upton Sinclair

  • "What started as an effort to address our carbon footprint has turned out to be financially a very good thing.”

Linda Fisher -VP of Environment, Health and Safety, DuPont

  • How are you driving the sustainability of your business and community?

  • “Doing nothing and continuing on our merry way is not an option. We have to try to put the world on a low evolution, low carbon pathway. It’s about action now. It’s about momentum and enthusiasm…Yes, we must change the way we live, but that doesn’t mean we have to stop having fun."

Sir Richard Branson Gaia Capitalism Let’s not screw it - Let’s just do it.

  • “We think green means green. This is a time period where environmental improvement is going to lead toward profitability. This is not a hobby to make people feel good.”

Jeffrey R. Immelt, Chairman and CEO, GE

  • " Responsible business should be at the core of a company’s programmes and strategies, not a bolt-on to operations. Companies that count recognise that responsible business can help to innovate and develop new products and services and access new markets - not only minimise risk. These companies implement initiatives and programmes to improve their positive impact, not just minimise their negative impact.”

    Business in the Community  UK

  • To be a successful and sustainable business, CSR must be integrated into the very heart of the business and not left as a separate function or responsibility...

Welcome to MOSS
Models of Success and Sustainability (MOSS) is Australia’s industry body for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). MOSS supports Australian business through education, training, networking and advice to drive sustainability and competitive business success.

MOSS defines Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a company's approach to managing their business processes to maximise their positive impact on stakeholders both within the company and in wider society.

CSR aims to deliver bottom-line benefits and value creation through responsible business practice.

CSR is not cheque book philanthropy plus PR.  CSR at it’s best is:
§         Aligned with corporate ambition
§         Integrates business processes
§         A reflection of corporate and employee values

CSR delivers a frame work for corporate sustainability.

Dominant motivators towards CSR include; better economic performance, employee retention and motivation, brand reputation and risk management. Compared to the rest of world, Australia still lags in implementing and reporting on CSR, but with the right tools and connections, Australia and Australian businesses can fast become leaders in CSR best practice.

MOSS is supported by high profile business leaders including:

“If you want to build a business to last, you will take Corporate Social Responsibility seriously. Talented employees demand it, informed customers expect it, long-term investors will require it. Embedded in the business, CSR can be a source of creativity and innovation, leading to new products and services, access to new or under-serviced markets, or even new business models.

Smart businesses know they will not have all the CSR answers themselves. They will learn from each other and from stakeholders in business. MOSS is here to help that process. I encourage you to join and become an active participant as it works to develop an appropriate Australian vision of Responsible Business and business support for sustainability”
