Careers in CSR & Sustainability

There is no doubt it is an exciting time in the world of Innovation, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainabile Development.  Whether you are interested in environmental sciences, business strategy, community engagement, governance, renewable or clean technologies, change management or business ethics there are many new and interesting career paths available.

The UN report Green Jobs: Towards Decent Work in a Sustainable, Low-Carbon World represents the first comprehensive and authoritative report which provides an overview of the complexity and policy relevance of global environmental challenges - climate change - and employment. It gathers data on employment on different sectors - renewable energy, energy efficiency in buildings, sustainable transportation, and organic agriculture - and draws conclusions and recommendations for policy makers, business and industry, workers and trade unions in the context of the transition towards a low-carbon economy, which may yield a real potential, and yet is faced with formidable challenges.

Green jobs or clean energy jobs, which contribute to better environmental outcomes or increased sustainability, are set to boom in the 21st century as we move towards a global low carbon economy. Clean energy jobs range from low-skill, entry-level positions to high-skill, higher-paid jobs, and include opportunities for advancement in both skills and wages. CSR is an issue who's time has come!

Senator Nick Sherry suggests that developments in CSR are not a short term trend, but represent a fundamental shift in how we do business.

He said "CSR has contined to develop well beyond its philanthropic and community beginnings, and there is now a growing realisation that a business can not operate in a void - insulated from the people, community and society in which they seek success. It's not just about how a business distributes its profits, but how it goes about making that profit across the organisation".

While terms like 'corporate social responsibility' and 'responsible investment' may sound altruistic, they all boil down to sustainable business practices. The kind of business practices Australia needs right now."

Isn't it time you understood what CSR means to your organisation?  Call MOSS today on 03 9846 7629 to discuss how we can help this process.
